SUSTAINABLE PACKING FOR YOUR NEXT HOLIDAY
Whether you’re planning on going on an overseas holiday or a trip within Australia, there is often a long packing list for all the items you need to take with you. If you have been practicing sustainability at home and focusing on reducing your impact on the planet, there’s no reason you can’t continue your good work whilst on holidays too!
To help you out, check out KEEPER Denim’s top 5 tips on sustainable packing for your next holiday:
-
PACK LIGHTLY
There’s nothing worse than going on a holiday, only to find out once you get there and travel around that your bag/suitcase is too heavy! So, try packing lightly. I don’t know about you, but I often find that I always pack too much and a lot of the items I bring never leave the suitcase. Opt for a few items of clothing that you can mix and match to create different outfits. For example our KEEPER Denim Elwood Skinny Jean in Light Indigo is the perfect versatile item to take on any holiday. Plus, did you know if you’re travelling by plane, a lighter suitcase will mean saving on fuel consumption?
-
SUSTAINABLE SUNSCREEN
When holidaying in Summer - especially in Australia, sunscreen is very important. However, if you’re going swimming at the beach on your holiday, you should consider the ingredients in your sunscreen. Conventional sunscreen often contains harmful that can seep into the water, effecting the ocean including coral reproduction and growth. So, when you next purchase sunscreen, try to look for ones that contain mineral blockers, rather than chemical ones (avoid ingredients such as oxybenzone, octinoxate, cinnamates and parabens). There are many brands that make ‘reef-friendly’ sunscreen, some of our favourite Australian brands include Bondi Sands, People4Oceans and Sukin Skincare, you can buy these at your local supermarket or online.
-
REUSABLE COFFEE CUP
Did you know most single-use coffee cups have a wax coating on them? So even though they are made of paper, they can’t be recycled. Next time you grab a coffee from your local café, take a reusable cup with you! Plus, if you’re holidaying locally here in Australia, many cafés offer a discount if you bring your own reusable coffee cup!
-
REUSABLE WATER BOTTLE
In Australia, you can drink the tap water so it’s easy to bring along your reusable water bottle when travelling locally. There are many different types of bottles to choose from, such as stainless-steel or even plastic collapsible ones if space is important, it’s up to you!
-
REUSABLE TOTE BAG
Avoid using single use plastic and travel with a reusable tote bag. These are great as they won’t take up any room in your suitcase and you’ll never be stuck without a bag to carry things when you go shopping! Our KEEPER Denim Organic Cotton Tote Bag is the perfect accessory for any holiday!
